Wedding Day Preparation For Photographers

This past month, I had such a fun time shooting for my friend Bronte's wedding! πŸ‘°β€β™€οΈ

Weddings are one of my favorite events to capture as a photographer. 😍

However, there is a lot of preparation involved to make sure the day goes smoothly. This includes planning what to wear, what to eat, to what camera gear to pack. πŸ“Έ

So, I thought it would be helpful if I share with you what I do to prepare for a wedding photoshoot so that everything runs smoothly! 😌

  1. What To Wear:

Comfortability is key! πŸ”‘

In order to feel comfortable, I tend to wear some sort of pants.

My jumper is usually my go-to because I want to make sure I can bend down and all around with ease.

However, since I'm currently pregnant, I decided to wear these nice, flowy pants from Dillard’s for extra comfort.

I also brought three pairs of shoes:

  • Boots πŸ₯Ύ

  • Sneakers πŸ‘Ÿ

  • Waterproof-looking Birkenstocks (I got from Target for $5.) 🩴

I always bring a back up pair of shoes for arch support.

In case I wanted to change my clothes to be more comfortable, I packed a pair of leggings, a t-shirt and a jacket. πŸ‘š

2. What to Eat

To start off my day, I made myself a smoothie using frozen dragonfruit, mint chocolate protein powder, and a banana. 🍌 🍫 πŸ˜‹

I packed a big lunchbox to carry all of my food for the day.

3. What to Pack

Camera gear & MORe.

This was a 9 hour wedding day, so I made sure I had all my essentials packed and ready to go! πŸ“Έ

In my Think Tank suitcase, I packed: 🧳

  1. Battery chargers for each type of camera

  2. 5D Mark III (My favorite and most used camera.)

  3. 5D Mark IV

  4. 70-200mm lens (I borrowed for the day.)

  5. 85mm lens

  6. 35mm lens

  7. Speaker

  8. Extra Batteries

  9. Light stand & Ring light πŸ’‘

  10. A wagon (For my assistant to pull.) πŸš—

  11. My laptop (In case I need to back-up any images.) πŸ’»

When packing my camera gear, I make sure to pack all of my flashes and to bring back ups in case one failed. (I've had one fail before and it is not fun.) πŸ“Έ

For this wedding, I had my assistant carry my Shootsac that holds my memory cards and extra batteries. πŸ’Ύ

I always bring back-up memory cards and hard drives.

The key is to pack a lot of backups in order for everything to run smoothly. This includes bringing extra snacks and water.

Along with my camera gear, I also make sure to pack my strap holster. I tend to wear it the entire duration of wedding except during the reception.

I changed my lenses for this specific wedding and rented a 72-200mm lens. I love its bokeh effect and I can't wait to see more when I edit the pictures in detail! 😍

I was super prepared for the day and was so excited to capture the wedding!

The wedding was absolutely stunning and the photos were beautiful! πŸ₯Ί

I hope this inspired you and helped for your next wedding photoshoot!
